Registering for Free School Meals Eligibility

Dear Parent/Guardian,

I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the school is able to receive a significant amount of additional funding from the government if your child is registered as eligible to receive Free School Meals.  In addition to the benefits to the school and a free hot meal every day, your child will be eligible to access free group music lessons provided by Surrey Arts, free school milk, free attendance at our Breakfast Club every morning and a contribution towards certain school trips; as well as be being accessed for other interventions as required.

As part of your entitlement, each pupil registered will receive a Reimbursement for a FREE jumper.

The criteria for entitlement to Free School Meals are given below:

If you are currently receiving any of the following benefits:

  • Income Support (IS)
  • Income Based Job Seeker’s Allowance (IBJSA)
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Child Tax Credit, provided that their annual income is less than £16,190 (as assessed by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs) and they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit. You do NOT qualify for Free School Meals if you receive Working Tax Credit and your income is below £16,190).
  • The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
  • Income Related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Working Tax Credit ‘run-on’ – the payment you may receive for a further four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

Your child will be eligible to receive a Free School Meal every day.

Being registered does not mean that your child has to take the meal if you would prefer he/she brings a packed lunch.

The way that we verify entitlement has changed and the new system is simpler and much more confidential than the system used previously.  No evidence of entitlement is required by the school, the only information you need to provide the school is:

Name of the person receiving the benefit

                                   Date of birth

National Insurance Number or Asylum Support Reference Number

                                   Child(rens) Name (s)

Please consider carefully if you are entitled to apply for Free School Meals on behalf of your child and, if so, please click here to view the registration form.  Please complete and return this form to the school office as soon as possible or obtain a copy of the form from the office.  If you have any queries please contact Mrs Dutton or myself.  All replies will be treated in the strictest confidence.

Thank you for your assistance in this important matter.
